Aioi Shrine

Aioisha

Aioi Shrine has long been a place of special faith as it is known for its miraculous powers for bringing people together in love.

The enshrined deity is Musuhi no Kami (the god of birth), and the first volume of the Kojiki states that he is one of the three gods of creation.

The deity Musu is said to be the deification of the creative power of the universe, and Musu (birth) has the same meaning as the Musu in "moss-covered" (covered with moss), and Hi (spirit) has the same meaning as sun and fire, and is thought to be a word that represents something mystical.

On the left side of the shrine is the "Renri no Sakaki" tree.

This sacred tree is a manifestation of the shrine's divine virtue of matchmaking, with two trees tied together and a child tree sprouting at its base. It is said in popular songs that if you pray to this sacred tree for matchmaking, safe childbirth, childcare, family harmony, etc., you will receive miraculous results. It has long been counted as one of the seven wonders of Kyoto. The current sacred tree is the fourth generation, and it is said to be born in the shrine's "Tadasu no Mori" forest, following the previous generations.
