Ceremony for burning ancient sacred amulets
It is a Shinto ritual in which worshippers are given sacred talismans and amulets over the course of a year, which they then return to the shrine in gratitude, where they are purified and burned by the priests.
The ceremony to burn the old talismans is also called "Dondo Yaki" and is held as a Shinto ritual to pray for good health and safety.
Memorial Bow Ceremony
This is an event held during the Setsubun Festival to ward off evil and bring good fortune. People shoot arrows at a target with the word "oni" (demon) written on the back to ward off evil spirits and purify the area. They also sometimes shoot arrows at the top of the tower gate.
We would like to invite many people to take part in the Setsubun "bean throwing" service. The beans will be thrown during the purification ritual. The beans and rice cakes in bags will be distributed to visitors after the ritual is over.
